Methodist Ladies' College - MLC

Methodist Ladies' College - MLC

VIC, Melbourne Eastern Suburbs

MLC is committed to preparing our students for life beyond the school gates to ensure they truly are ‘world-ready women’. We provide our students with a range of diverse opportunities to prepare them to enter a globalised society where digital communication will define and shape their lives. Today’s education must serve the needs of young people growing up in this tremendously exciting, yet continually shifting context.

Our over-arching goal is to nurture and develop each MLC student so that she leaves school with the skills, knowledge and values necessary to be a world-ready woman.

The college is proud to be in a unique position as a large, all-girls school. This means we provide our students with the opportunities, choice, community and room for growth that makes an MLC education so special.

World-Class Staff

Our staff are passionate, supportive and experts in their fields. A large number of our teaching staff are also VCE examiners and Chief Assessors; in fact, one of the largest groups from any Victorian school. MLC fosters an environment of lifelong learning through ongoing professional development programs to ensure that our staff are continuously growing and building on their knowledge and skills. Our staff delight in sharing their combined knowledge with the community through workshops, lectures and printed publications, both internal to MLC and with the wider community.

All Girls

MLC has over 137 years' experience successfully educating girls to be the citizens the world needs. MLC teaching and educational support staff understand girls and the particular way they learn, develop and communicate. Our programs have been specifically designed to help girls achieve their best, and their effectiveness is borne out in our consistently outstanding academic results as well as our students' achievements and successes in all areas of school life.

Curriculum and Learning

Subject variety is a hallmark of an MLC education. The College offers one of the most extensive and engaging Years 7 - 12 curriculum offerings of any Australian school.

These subjects are the foundation of MLC’s students' education, integrated into all year levels' curriculum starting from MLC Kindle all the way into Senior School. The following core curriculum are:

  • English
  • Science
  •  Mathematics

MLC offers students' endless options to explore areas of study that pique their interests. Each school, from Junior School to Senior School, has its own choices and opportunities for discovery.

  • Humanities
  • Languages
  • Commerce
  • Home Economics and Hospitality
  • Physical Education

These are optional activities for your daughter to participate in addition to their school day, and MLC students embrace these opportunities! These activities are scheduled before school, after school or during lunchtimes. There are a myriad of opportunities to participate, make new friends, get involved and experience new challenges through house activities, sport, clubs, the arts and even international trips and tours.

We choose to use the term "co-curricular" rather than "extra-curricular" as we believe these activities, alongside classroom learning, are a part of what makes well-rounded, holistic education and greatly contributes to a student's experience.
