As an Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) school, St Kevin’s College’s foundation is built upon the gospel message of liberating education, gospel spirituality, inclusive community, and justice and solidarity. We aim to open the hearts and minds through quality teaching and learning, for all students to facilitate a sense of contribution and success.
The lives of our students are enriched as they are equipped with the tools for critical reflection and engagement to lead a hope-filled life, with the aim to build a better world for all. Boys are challenged by expert teachers who are well versed in the special requirements of boys’ education to develop their individual sensibilities through artistic, intellectual, cultural, sporting and social justice pursuits.
Each family develops a strong sense of community through our approach to pastoral care and our wellbeing programs, based on respectful relationships. Communication between school and home is seen as crucial to ensure that a student is able to be his best. Students and families are supported by a pastoral care tutor, as well as house or year-level coordinators.
St Kevin’s College continues to achieve strong academic results with a non-selective enrolment policy and without entrance scholarships to attract high-achieving students. VCE results are always celebrated as St Kevin’s regularly features on the top performing schools in the state, opening up a multitude of possibilities for our students. In particular, the college’s VCE English results continue to rank the highest in the state.
Enrichment opportunities are offered in a variety of subjects. Partnerships with universities and other institutions are offered for those students who require a different challenge. Our visiting scientist program and aviation program are two highlights. A rich reading program is incorporated into the students’ timetable with dedicated time for students to meet with guest authors and to attend writing workshops.
The college’s Learning Diversity programs are timetabled at each year level to support those students who require additional assistance to achieve their personal best. After-hours and VCE holiday programs are a part of the routine with teachers and old collegian tutors providing further support for students on their academic journey.
St Kevin’s partnership with the Melbourne Indigenous Transition School (MITS) supports young Indigenous students as they pursue away-from-home schooling in Melbourne. This program provides greater opportunity for Indigenous students from remote and regional communities, so that they may lead lives full of choice and opportunity.
The religious education program, grounded in theology and faith, provides teaching in Christian morality and opportunities for prayer and worship. We make the message of compassion, justice and peace, a living reality within our community. Every student is actively involved in the service of others.
The college’s counselling and wellbeing teams assist with personal growth, helping to develop resilience for life. The careers centre further aims to provide students with wise counsel and information to equip them to make informed decisions about their life beyond school.
The extensive outdoor education program enables boys to grow in confidence and self-reliance through the theme of journey. The sports program of the Associated Public Schools (APS) enables every boy to represent his school in several sports in summer, spring and winter.
Our campuses are conveniently located on the metro train lines, drawing our students from a diverse range of suburbs.
St Kevin’s College values learning, family and fullness of life.
