Kindergarten
Play and laughter feature strongly in our three-year-old and four-year-old Kindergarten programs, which are grounded in the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
Our children enjoy many and varied learning experiences from the creative arts, as well as from our innovative Indigenous, Bush Kinder and numeracy and literacy programs.
Our large outdoor environment is a beautiful natural space and our passionate educators help each child develop those foundational physical, social, emotional and cognitive skills alongside pre-numeracy and literacy skills.
Junior School
At Lauriston Girls’ School, we teach girls to be intrepid, ask questions and 'give everything a go'. We work collaboratively with parents, students, staff and education leaders to ensure that every girl is constantly challenged to be curious, courageous and motivated to learn.
Students begin their Lauriston journey with innovative learning programs that help develop physical, social and emotional skills as well as providing strong foundations in numeracy and literacy. From Prep, students also enjoy access to specialist and enrichment programs, including the study of Mandarin, and Lauriston’s differentiated learning program, which ensures each student progresses at a rate best suited to her.
As our students progress through Junior School, they are encouraged to view the world from a broader perspective. Community Service is a key aspect of life at Lauriston and we encourage all students to engage in a range of community service activities that help them embrace social and cultural differences and inspire them to be change-makers.
All students in the Junior School are given the chance to take on a leadership role. In Year 2, this might be leading assemblies or mentoring other students. In Year 6, every girl is part of a leadership
group and takes an active role in the school. From guiding prospective families on school tours to organising morning sports and activities, each girl learns responsibility and the impact she can make.
At Lauriston Junior School, we provide students with the skills, competencies and character that help them engage with their peers and prepare them for a bright future.
Co-curricular
Our extensive co-curricular programs inspire our girls to be curious, courageous and collaborative.
Our music program for Junior School encourages students to explore and develop their individual musical abilities across a range of genres through individual instrumental lessons, ensembles and choirs, jazz cabarets and musical productions.
Visual Arts is an integral part of Lauriston’s curriculum, the culture and the school community. Our passionate teachers nurture interests and creative experimentation.
Our digital fabrication laboratory is a collaborative setting for open-source technology, digital fabrication and programming. Our Junior School teachers use this cross-disciplinary learning space to encourage students to create, design, problem-solve and engage with STEM.
Sport
Sport in the Junior School is designed to give students an opportunity to experience non-competitive and/or competitive activities.
Lauriston Junior School is a member of School Sport Victoria (SSV). Students can compete at different levels depending on their capabilities and level of achievement.
All Year 6 students participate in Wednesday afternoon Interschool sport during Terms 2 and 3.
Internal Wednesday afternoon sport takes place in Term 1 and Term 4.
Facilities
Lauriston’s extensive facilities, which include a dedicated Science and Resource Centre, integrated Performing Arts and Music Centre, a gymnasium, swimming pool and tennis courts, complement the curriculum and allow students to participate in a diverse range of co-curricular activities. Building is currently underway to create a Unified Junior School, Early Learning Centre, and world-class Sports, Health and Wellbeing Precinct.
