Established in 1875, Brisbane Girls Grammar School provides a broad, liberal education for students from Years 7 to 12. Through the diverse experiences offered at Girls Grammar, students are inspired to dare to dream, test the unfamiliar and lead lives enriched by learning.
By balancing academic learning with enriching co-curricular activities underpinned by a comprehensive Student Care Program, students develop into well-rounded, capable, confident and independent young women who embark on diverse and fulfilling careers.
Academic excellence
The curriculum at the school is designed to nurture education through a diverse range of challenging intellectual and physical experiences. Students are taught to understand connectedness across different contexts and become engaged with their learning and the learning process.
Although academically non-selective in the main year of entry, Year 7, the school consistently achieves outstanding academic results across ATAR, NAPLAN and the Queensland Certificate of Education. In 2021, Girls Grammar was ranked as one of the top-performing schools in the new system of senior assessment, ATAR.
Life-wide learning
The school’s robust co-curricular program strengthens students’ existing talents and uncovers new areas of passion, developing enduring life and leadership skills, resilience and an adventurous spirit.
Girls Grammar offers 19 competitive sports, which foster important leadership, decision-making and teamwork skills that are highly valued in future careers and life pursuits.
The Instrumental Music Program offers 34 ensembles, including bands, choirs, orchestras and chamber groups, allowing each student who wishes to develop her musical ability.
Student care
Student Care at Girls Grammar is responsive to the needs and developmental age of the individual. The school believes student wellbeing is the responsibility of every teacher in every classroom and has a team of dedicated staff, including clinical psychologists who oversee the social and emotional aspects of the girls’ education.
Emphasis and careful thought are given to the important task of assisting each girl to find her place, assisted by comprehensive support offered through the school’s distinctive House Structure.
