Penleighand Essendon Grammar School was the clear standout in the Western metropolitan region, with 26 per cent of students recording a study score of more than 40. PEGS also featured the top 10 state-wide, one of just two schools outside of the Eastern and Southern regions to make the cut.

All-girls LowtherHall Anglican Grammar School finished in second place with 18 per cent and was the only same-sex institution to feature. Rounding out the top five were two government schools (Suzanne Cory High School and Williamstown High School), while Westbourne Grammar School was from the independent sector.
