Melbourne Girls Grammar

South Yarra VIC, Melbourne Southern Suburbs & Western Port

The Melbourne Girls Grammar (MGGS) Boarding House (Years 7 to 12) is located on the Merton Hall Campus in South Yarra. Within walking distance to Melbourne’s CBD, MGGS is the only boarding school ideally located close to the heart of Melbourne. Adjacent to the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Yarra River, your daughter can make the most of every opportunity this fantastic city has to offer.

One of the great strengths of boarding at MGGS is the quality and depth of the relationships built between the school, families and girls. We support and encourage our girls to learn about themselves, develop their character, build relationships and become independent young women. Our boarders come from all over Australia and overseas, bringing with them a range of perspectives, learning experiences and ambition.

We encourage your daughter to explore her passions and achieve her best in whatever she pursues. At MGGS, girls are encouraged to develop their own routines and gain independence and confidence in time management and organisational skills. Girls are given the opportunity to get involved in specialised activities to develop strong friendships and take part in all that MGGS and the wider community have to offer.

Wellbeing

It’s important that your daughter feels safe and secure in a caring and supportive community. Within the boarding family, we encourage every girl to grow her independence, take greater ownership of her routines and be self-directed in her approach to her studies.

A vast array of enriching activities is offered, designed to give your daughter the opportunity to develop her interests and passions like she would at home. The location of MGGS puts our borders within easy reach of major art galleries, world-class sporting arenas, and vibrant cafes, theatres and shopping precincts. This allows every girl to explore cultural, sporting and relaxation activities and find her place in the world.

We know that in order to succeed, our students must feel supported and settled in their environments. The wellbeing of each student is managed within a ‘triangle of care’. We understand that parenting from a distance can be challenging for families, and staff encourage regular and open communication. In order to enjoy their experience and thrive, our boarders need to feel supported and settled in the boarding house, their home away from home.

Support

It is important to have positive role models when growing up. Our boarding house staff are appointed for their diverse interests, experience and skills. Together they create a vibrant family where your daughter will feel safe, cared for and able to share her ideas, make friends and source advice when needed.

Living away from home brings different challenges for each girl. It is important that our team have the professional knowledge and life experience that encourages the girls to share and connect. Support from our staff extends beyond their day-to-day routine and involves playing a hands-on role, steering girls through the ups and downs of adolescence with sensitivity and care.

To support the needs of each girl, our network includes enthusiastic residential staff, wellbeing coordinators, academic tutors and teachers. This network communicates daily about each girl’s academic progress and classroom engagement.

The boarding house fosters strong, capable young women who develop the skills and confidence to flourish and be their best in every possible way. We aim to develop every girl’s capacity to be an independent and reflective learner. A boarding experience at MGGS prepares and empowers our girls for life beyond school.
