Peninsula Grammar

Mount Eliza VIC, Melbourne Southern Suburbs & Western Port

Co-educational — Kindergarten to Year 12, Day and Boarding, Anglican

In its 60th year, Peninsula Grammar School holds its place as the preeminent school on the Mornington Peninsula. An open-entry, co-educational school located one hour’s drive south of Melbourne, the school is situated on 80 acres of gently sloping natural bushland and is renowned for the depth of opportunity it affords each child. With an exceptional record of academic achievement, a strong sporting program and a performing arts program with an unsurpassed record of distinction, the school is inherently proud of its culture of excellence.

The case for co-education

Peninsula Grammar is proudly co-educational. We fervently believe that young men and women learning together helps them best challenge, question, and critique the norms and beliefs that govern society today. Learning from and with each other, our young people understand that diversity, equality, inclusion and acceptance are fundamental to understanding the role they must live out as citizens of the world, regardless of gender, of race or ethnicity. It is the culture we create, not the gender of our students that drives our success.

Facilities

Privileged to be located in one of the most sought-after corners of the country, extending across Mount Eliza, with stunning views of Port Phillip Bay, the school is renowned for its evolving landscape and the considerations it makes when building new learning environments. Its most recent building, ALATUS, is designed to combine technology and critical thinking in a purpose-built environment that challenges students to rethink their learning and discover fact from fiction. Our state-of-the-art Science Centre provides a pre-tertiary context of exploration where theoretical studies and laboratory experiences work hand-in-hand to deepen student’s inquisitive nature and innate understanding of the scientific world. With three gymnasiums, two outdoor heated swimming pools, soccer ovals, grass tennis courts and three more ovals, the school sets the benchmark for natural beauty and exceptional learning environments.

Boarding

With the evolution of the pandemic altering the landscape of our boarding context this year, we remain committed to our Boarding program and the richness that our international and domestic cohort add to our school. With two boarding houses located in distinct areas of the campus, the school works to provide our boarders with an unsurpassed learning experience, that enables them to not only pursue excellence but to learn more about themselves. We have a long and proud association with schools across China, Vietnam and Malaysia and are excited by the possibilities of reimagining our boarding program this year.

Curriculum

A Kindergarten to Year 12 school, our curriculum provides a depth of learning necessary for students in the 21st Century. While we are proud to be able to offer a multitude of subjects, it is the work done to enhance the learning and growth of every child within these subjects that matters most to us. We are particularly proud of our bespoke ALATUS curriculum, evolutionary in nature and driven by student interest, it is a powerful example of the transformation of education and the necessity of ensuring students learn how to think and develop the confidence and the skills to question. Our VCE program offers 34 subjects to students and enables them to choose a pathway that best suits them. With exceptional and highly experienced leaders in the VCE, the program ensures that every child knows success throughout their final years at the school.

Co-curricular programs

We are renowned within the state of Victoria for the exceptional quality of our performing arts and music programs. Students are afforded the experience to learn from some of the most recognised and professional theatrical leaders and musicians and in doing so, the richness of their experience is unsurpassed. Regularly featuring in the VCE Top Class program, we are inherently proud of our student successes. Our outdoor education programs, particularly at Year 9 and 10, further the opportunity for students to be exposed to experiences that gift them greater insight into their own passions and pursuits, and we are excited by our future plans and evolution of our outdoor education curriculum.

Music

It has long been known that music enhances the developmental pathways of children in many ways. At Peninsula Grammar, we invest heavily in our Music program, so as to gift our student’s success on stage and inspire them to think outside the square. Students enjoy a broad range of musical experiences from the Junior Years Music program to VCE Music Performance in conjunction with our exceptional instrumental, ensemble and vocal programs.

Performing arts

Peninsula Grammar’s Performing Arts program offers our students incredible experiences and opportunities to live their best lives. Each year our students take centre stage in multiple performances, including our Junior Years Mini Musical Extravaganza and our renowned Middle Years and Senior Years productions. Winner of a substantial number of awards, our Senior Years production sets the standard for student performance and is a highlight of our annual calendar.

Sport

Our sporting traditions are as old as our school, yet as transformational as society today. We are inherently proud of the growth of our sporting program, in particular our women’s AFL team and our touch football and cricket teams. Peninsula Grammar is a member of the Associated Grammar Schools of Victoria (AGSV). Our Middle and Senior School students compete in the winter and summer sports competition as part of their exposure to a curriculum that spans far beyond the classroom. Significant emphasis is placed on the necessity of resilience through team commitment, skill development and sportsmanship.

Wellbeing and positive education

As a proud school of Positive Education, we pride ourselves on the learning experiences we provide all students in better understanding their emotions and their existence within the world. We have strong pastoral support networks that work closely with every family to ensure that the growth and development of each child is experienced through a holistic framework of knowing who they truly are.

Art, design and technology

The Art, Design and Technology program provides a purposeful balance between breadth and depth of contemporary and traditional practices and caters for the individual differences of students. Students from Kinder to Year 12 are encouraged to develop an awareness of how the art and design process communicates values, ideas and meaning. They are asked to ‘think, imagine, create and appreciate’ in our art program. Starting from Kinder, creativity, exploration, skills and processes are embraced, encouraged and celebrated. Our art shows are considered some of the best on the Mornington Peninsula, with some of our students going on to study at the Victorian College of the Arts and pursue artistic professions in their own right.

Outdoor program

The Outdoor Education program at Peninsula Grammar provides life-changing experiences for students in Years 2 to 10. Whether scaling the cliffs at Mt Arapiles, rafting on the Murray River, hiking at Wilsons Promontory or sea kayaking across the Gippsland Lakes, students are immersed in a world where technology takes a back-seat as they begin to rely on themselves and support from friends to accomplish great things.

Scholarships

At Peninsula Grammar, we celebrate aspiration and achievement. Our scholarship program offers opportunities for exceptional students to reach their full potential. We have a diverse array of opportunities including academic and general excellence scholarships for Years 5, 7, and 9 as well as other opportunities to explore. Read about all our scholarships on our website or feel free to consult with our admissions team directly.
