Discover the Junior School at St Mary's
At St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School, we focus our attention on girls’ education — their interests, talents and their specific styles of learning. St Mary’s is a school in which girls flourish.
Our junior girls will discover a school that encourages a love of lifelong learning. With an emphasis on the basic skills of literacy and numeracy, we help them develop strong foundations on which to build increasing knowledge and understanding. They are taught to interact and co-operate as they grow. In those early years, our girls also make firm friendships and develop a sense of connection to their school.
We encourage our students to be curious and inquisitive; we inspire them to think widely, to research, to collaborate, to interpret and evaluate; we challenge them to be self-motivated and self-directed. We cultivate their passions and instil in them an aspiration to aim high while remaining grounded, respectful and caring.
The Junior School offers a wide range of opportunities in the classroom, as well as specific support programs and co-curricular activities to enable girls to engage and develop at a level that best supports their learning style. An integral element of this model is the St Mary’s Academic Centre for Enrichment (ACE).
ACE Programs are available to a select group of students who require a different program, while enrichment opportunities are available to all students within the classroom. St Mary’s prides itself on delivering a differentiated curriculum in all year levels.
Our Junior School is well-resourced and employs three full-time ACE teachers and a school psychologist, who work closely with the classroom teachers to monitor and support students.
As a community-minded school, we also partner closely with our parents, so we are ‘raising our girls together’ through a parent-teacher connect program called Bonds and Bridges. This is an opportunity for parents to work with educators and other parents around issues pertaining to junior school-aged girls.
Our girls also have many opportunities to engage with our Hale School, our brother school, to enjoy learning experiences and nature play with boys their own age, as they develop friendships across the schools.
For us, each girl is an individual; she has her own talents and interests, her own strengths and her own areas where she shines or may need a little extra help to succeed. At St Mary’s we create a learning environment where girls can discover their best.
We encourage families to experience for themselves what makes St Mary’s so special. For more information, visit www.stmarys.wa.edu.au. For a personalised tour or to find out more, please contact our Enrolments Registrar, Hazel Taylor, on (08) 9341 9111 or at firstname.lastname@example.org
