In 1982, St Leonard’s College became both the first Victorian school and the first Australian independent school to offer students the choice of either the VCE or International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) as pathways to tertiary education.
In an increasingly interconnected world, students compete both locally and internationally for tertiary places and employment opportunities. A broad education with a global perspective such as that offered by the IBDP is critical to success in life beyond the school gates. Its rigorous assessment scheme offers students the best preparation for the challenges of tertiary education.
The IBDP demands breadth, with students required to take subjects from areas such as science, mathematics and humanities, as well as at least one foreign language. The program is ideal for highly motivated and independent learners with strengths and interests in a range of disciplines.
The IBDP also challenges students to consider how they might use their talents and skills to make meaningful contributions to the communities in which they live. The development of this perspective is strongly aligned with our college’s ethical culture — one that is founded upon a strong moral purpose — to develop genuine global citizens who respond to inequity, inequality and injustice. As global citizens, our students are armed with the necessary skills, values and attitudes required to build an economic and social future in an increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world.
Students at St Leonard’s College choose either VCE or the IBDP, with both pathways providing year 12 graduates with an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR).
Since its introduction in 1982, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) has enjoyed ever-growing popularity at St Leonard’s College. Our Class of 2023 IBDP results, noted below, reaffirm our position as one of Bayside’s leading independent schools.
