Viewbank College is the outstanding government college of the northern region and is viewed as the leading college in the City of Banyule. The college motto, ‘Caring for Excellence’ allows students to excel and achieve in a caring and supportive environment. Viewbank College is noted for its VCE excellence and this is a testimony to the strength of the curriculum and the expertise of its highly committed staff.
The college offers students in Year 10 the opportunity to complete a VCE Unit 1 and 2 subject as part of their studies. Learning maps are used to assist students and teachers to accurately assess where students are at and to inform students of what they need to be able to display to achieve at the next standard. The college also offers an impressive Enhanced/Acceleration Program and Student Leadership Program.
In order to achieve success and personal growth, students are encouraged to be involved in extensive cocurricular activities. The college is known for its exciting music and performance program, its dynamic Japanese and German programs that also involve exchange opportunities, and for offering opportunities for students to excel through debating, public speaking, sporting and visual arts programs. It promotes a warm, caring environment that encourages and prepares students to become active, effective members of their community. All this is underpinned by our college values: responsibility, experience, striving, purpose, excellence, care, and teamwork.
Viewbank College has received 11.5 million from the Victorian government to build a flexible performing arts centre which will have both music and drama facilities for classroom teaching, as well as new mathematics classrooms and a total new fit-out of the mathematics/science area and the arts area which will encompass a “maker’s space” for our new STEAM program. Currently Viewbank has outstanding facilities, including the Banyule Theatre and an impressive oval, basketball courts and soccer field, which enhance the opportunities for students to perform at their best.
