Our school

Tintern Grammar is an open-entry school where students are supported by extension opportunities and a differentiated curriculum. We celebrate our boys’ and girls’ individuality, providing them with an environment that encourages them to excel both academically and personally. Established in 1877, this year we celebrate our 140th anniversary as one of Australia’s oldest and foremost independent schools.

Parallel Learning

Our Parallel Learning model is a unique blend of single-gender and coeducational learning that caters to the different learning styles of boys and girls. Girls and boys attend the same campus and follow the same curriculum, but in separate spaces using different teaching methods.

Boys and girls learn together in our Early Learning Centre, separate into gender-specific classes in Junior and Middle School, and come back together in Senior College.

Early Learning Centre

We offer a three-year-old and Pre-Prep (four-year-old) program that combines teacher-led learning with play. Our youngest learners develop social, emotional, physical and intellectual skills, providing a solid foundation for their academic career.

Junior Schools (Prep to Year 6): Our single-gender classroom environment provides a hands-on, interactive learning environment for boys and an engaging, focused learning environment for girls. All of our students study French and music, and spend time at our on-site working farm.

Middle Schools (Years 7 to 9)

Our Middle School focuses on academic and personal growth, health, pastoral care and gender-specific issues. We offer elective subjects inclusive of performing arts, languages and ICT. At Year 9, our camps and outdoor education program builds upon skills of resilience, independence, self-sufficiency and responsibility.

Senior College (Years 10 to 12)

Our purpose built Senior College provides three pathways for senior students — VCE, IB and VCE VET. In addition, we provide extensive course and careers guidance, along with university preparation assistance.

Whole-child education

A broad range of co-curricular activities is offered, including sport outdoor education, equestrian, Young Farmers, art, drama, debating and music.

Academic excellence: Extension programs are offered throughout the entire curriculum and extend beyond the classroom. Tintern Grammar students consistently achieve amongst the top ATAR scores in the country for both VCE and IB.

Excellent teachers

Our teachers are dedicated, passionate and highly skilled, and instil a lifelong love of learning.

Individual care

At Tintern Grammar every child matters to us. By knowing and caring for each student, we nurture them to achieve their best.
