Launceston Church Grammar School is an Anglican co-educational day and boarding community for Early Learning to Grade 12 students where global learners and leaders are nurtured, challenged and inspired to serve and shape our world with courage, curiosity, creativity and compassion.
Our students are encouraged to be courageous as they embrace challenges with integrity and justice; be curious in exploring and examining the world and all its attributes; be creative, discovering and designing solutions for today’s and future challenges; and to be compassionate, seeking and serving the needs of our world.
Launceston Grammar is located in Tasmania and is Australia’s oldest continuously operated independent school. Our Junior Campus is set within historic grounds in East Launceston, close to the CBD and our Senior Campus is located on the beautiful grounds at Mowbray Heights overlooking the Tamar River. A dedicated, separate boarding house for boys and for girls are each located at the centre of the Senior Campus – providing students with a supportive home-away-from-home.
Launceston Grammar is well on the way to becoming a globally recognised International Baccalaureate (IB) World School with the implementation of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) within our Junior Campus. The PYP enables students to be Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers and Communicators – all within the IB’s internationally recognised framework.
For young learners with a passion for aeronautics and engineering, we are providing a practical pathway to acquire highly specialised skills through a unique Aviation programme. Our students are the first in Tasmania to experience a school-based study with hands-on aeronautical engineering as well as flight theory. For students in Grade 10, Aviation Theory has been introduced as a whole-year learning experience and in 2020, students in Grade 9 will also study Aviation Theory. As part of the programme, our students are building a full-size RV12 plane.
The Senior Campus features a purpose-built 2km mountain bike track which is well utilised for one of our afterschool community outreach programmes. The Mountain Bike Club offers a specialised programme for participants to develop mountain bike riding skills. The community outreach programme, offered throughout the year, also features a Science and Maths Club.
