Ivanhoe Grammar School has been educating young people since 1915 and while much has changed in the 100 years since, one thing remains true: our school is built on the key principle of developing young people of character.
The development of character is at the core of a child’s education and we remain committed to this philosophy. To accomplish this, we provide a breadth of experiences that encourage students to explore their individual strengths and interests; whether on the stage, in sport, sciences, mathematics, humanities or undertaking service-based learning experiences locally and internationally.
We believe in encouraging students to be the best they can be in their academic and co-curricular achievements and we do so by developing their own individual character.
Ivanhoe Grammar School is a multi-campus, co-educational Anglican school providing students and their families access to outstanding educational opportunities. Although we have individual campuses, we operate with a one-school mentality. This gives our students all the dual benefits of a large school network, but close and supportive communities.
The Ivanhoe Campus incorporates Buckley House and The Ridgeway Campus, offering Early Learning to Year 12.
Our Plenty Campus in Mernda offers learning from Foundation to Year 12 with all the benefits of a smaller school environment.
In an Australian first, our Year 9 students experience a year-long, hybrid university-secondary school learning experience at our new University Campus, located on the outskirts of La Trobe University in MacLeod.
Across all our campuses we offer a personalised approach to our curriculum, taking into account the different stages of children’s development and attitudes toward learning. This approach focuses on ensuring our students meet their full potential and prepares them for the challenges and responsibilities of life after school.
In primary years, we provide a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy, teaching through encouragement and inspiring a love of learning.
In middle years, we focus on the development of the whole child. This is a particular focus in our Australian-first Year 9 Program where we provide an innovative educational experience at a dedicated university campus made possible through a partnership with La Trobe University.
In the senior years, students are able to choose between competing the VCE or International Baccalaureate (IB). They are prepared for successful transition to tertiary study and the workforce through our personalised, futures-focused senior years pastoral model.
An engaging and diverse co-curricular program provides students with the opportunity to explore interests and be involved in activities they enjoy. Our co-curricular program offers sport, music, performing arts, outdoor education, debating, leadership training and cadets among many others.
Committed to service, learning and leadership, our focus is on developing students with a global outlook. Through our dedicated Global Citizenship Centre, we provide an authentic learning experience to develop creative and critical thinkers who are courageous and compassionate global citizens taking action in a collaborative, responsible and ethical way.
At Ivanhoe Grammar School, we believe that we are life long learners and that the act of learning applies not only to students, but to academic and operational staff at all levels. It is this philosophy that led us to develop what we call the Ivanhoe Learner, which we define as someone who is courageous, innovative, balanced, collaborative, ethical, reflective and compassionate. We integrate these values into the curriculum, seek them in our teaching staff and encourage them in all endeavours. Through all experiences at Ivanhoe Grammar School – curricular, co-curricular and community – we strive to embed these values in our students, and lead by our own example.
