As one of Australia’s leading independent girls’ schools, MLC has a proud tradition of welcoming boarders from rural and regional areas as well as countries all around the world. Tiddeman House, MLC’s boarding house, offers a home away from home for approximately 120 Year 7 to Year 12 students, providing an exciting journey to experience new opportunities, create new friendships and learn independence. We are located just eight kilometres from the cultural vibrancy of Melbourne’s CBD, dubbed the ‘world’s most liveable city’. The bustling urban centre of Hawthorn is also our doorstep with multiple public transport options, health services and leisure activities only minutes’ walk away.
MLC offers one of the largest and most varied curricula in Australia and we enthusiastically encourage our boarders to embrace the diverse range of activities available. With 30 sports and a wide range of committees and clubs available, there is sure to be something to ignite your daughter’s passions. Our facilities include our renowned music school and physical education centre for lessons and tuition as well as dedicated boarding sporting programs. The boarding house upholds a strong sense of community spirit with organised weekend activities, an annual boarders’ drama production and special event nights.
Tiddeman House combines tradition with contemporary living and technology, creating a warm, supportive environment. Living spaces include communal areas with modern facilities, an art and mindfulness space, reading room, study and gym as well as the state-of-the-art facilities of the main college. We provide an environment that offers the balance of flexibility and structure, privacy and connection. Students become independent and learn to self-manage, whilst leadership skills are developed through our boarding leader group, our boarding buddy system, and of course through countless opportunities within the wider college.
We understand that the transition to boarding can be daunting and our experienced and passionate team of staff are committed to delivering best practice residential care, and are chosen for their caring attitudes and approachable personalities. Academic tutors regularly liaise with day school teaching staff and parents so that each boarder’s learning needs are met and progress is monitored.
Boarding provides a wonderful opportunity for students to develop confidence, resilience and personal management skills. For those not from Melbourne, it gives students an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the city and makes transitions into future tertiary studies far easier. We are proud to foster a community culture of support and diversity, where lifelong friendships are made.
