Sacred Heart Girls’ College is a Catholic school, educating young women for life and always striving upwards towards excellence in learning and faith. Our college environment enables the development of strong, articulate, discerning women who are faithful to Gospel values, with respect for themselves, compassion for others and a preparedness and willingness to embrace life’s challenges.

Sacred Heart Girls’ College was established by the Sisters of Our Lady of Missions in 1957. The founder of the congregation, Euphrasie Barbier, sought ‘that all people would be loved, honoured and respected for the wonderful gifts of their difference and the amazing gifts of our oneness’. While the sisters no longer administer the college, their spirit and influence endure in our school’s spiritual and academic life.

Sacred Heart Girls’ College integrates academic excellence with personal development and Christian leadership. In partnership with families, our students are supported to develop the attributes and skills of lifelong learning: initiative, excellence, confidence, self-esteem, discipline, dedication, self-awareness, generosity of spirit, integrity, honesty, creativity, imagination and spiritual understanding. Our college provides a happy, supportive and disciplined environment to achieve individual success and foster confident and responsible young women. The college motto — Semper superne nitens, always striving upwards — encapsulates life at Sacred Heart.

Our community of approximately 1,000 students and their families and 100 specialist staff demonstrates Gospel values through respect for others, our environment and our social responsibility. We treat everyone with respect and dignity, promoting academic excellence and offering diverse intellectual, sporting and artistic opportunities. Our students are encouraged to develop their faith and demonstrate a vision of Christian womanhood through commitment, leadership and service. Each young woman is supported and challenged to reach her personal goals, holistically developing each student’s physical, emotional, cognitive, social and spiritual life within a Catholic framework. Our comprehensive wellbeing program includes student support services, academic and career guidance, peer support, big sister/little sister, counselling services, outdoor education program and many co-curricular activities.

When girls begin their learning journey at Sacred Heart, our community seeks to understand and respond to each girl’s strengths, talents and needs to create an environment which encourages all girls to strive to be their best. A love of learning is enhanced by connecting what happens in the classroom to real-life applications, extending students beyond the classroom to develop greater meaning in what they do. This motivates our students to seek the broader truths and perspectives that govern our world. Curriculum choices and learning experiences are designed to be exciting, enriching and challenging, encouraging our students to become compassionate, discerning and confident young women prepared to positively contribute to society and always strive for their personal best.

Our learning spaces — including spacious classrooms, a well-resourced library and contemporary science, ICT and arts facilities — within our college foster a strong sense of community and encourage collaborative learning. Our dedicated teachers consistently extend their own learning, enhancing the wide repertoire of excellent learning opportunities for our students. We have a proud history of academic success and always strive to provide the best possible educational opportunities for our students. This includes a wide array of co-curricular opportunities across many sporting, cultural, recreational and artistic pursuits, contributing to the education of well rounded, knowledgeable and confident young women.
