Sacré Coeur is a leading Catholic School for girls in Melbourne. It was founded on its Burke Road site in 1888 by the French order of nuns, the Society of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ). Our purpose is to “educate and empower our women to make a profound contribution to their world.”
This purpose statement reflects our commitment to educate each child, not just academically, but holistically with the goal of empowering her and building her confidence and resilience to respond to change and to live her life with a future focus.
Sacré Cœur is connected to 150 Sacred Heart schools in over 40 countries. Many girls participate each year in reciprocal international exchanges in Europe and North America. The ongoing development of our International Sacred Heart and external community relationships, networks and curriculum offerings influence global thinking and leadership.
In an ever-changing world, there has never been a better, or more challenging time to educate young women, therefore we ensure our girls and our staff are working with the latest learning, attitudes and devices to meet their educational and holistic development goals.
Our expert and dedicated teachers are privileged to work with young girls and women from Prep to Year 12 to guide their heads and their hearts in all they do. Sacré Cœur has been built upon a proud tradition of sharing our gifts and talents and for providing an optimal educational outcome for each child in a caring and supportive environment.
We believe it is our responsibility to help every student achieve her very best. We aim to achieve this through a rich, relevant and varied curriculum offering a diverse range of activities, targeting the individual needs of girls.
By developing a culture of enquiry and curiosity we maximise the individual potential and growth of our students, who are encouraged to follow their hearts in pursuing their interests, subject choices and pathways. As a result, they consistently achieve excellent VCE results and seek to contribute to their local communities and to the world.
We know that we must provide our students with the necessary skills to equip them for a changing world of work. We want our girls to graduate from Sacré Cœur with the capability, confidence and courage to live their lives to the full. Collaborative learning, which is enjoyed by our students, enables them to grow from, and be shaped by, a variety of insights and experiences to add greater value to educational outcomes.
At Sacré Cœur, we believe that positive relationships lie at the heart of learning and for students to be ready to learn, they must first feel happy and secure. Our objective is to build and nurture relationships to maximise capabilities and opportunities for respectful and mutually beneficial relationships.
At the heart, a Sacred Heart education is a deep respect and concern for each girl’s wellbeing. Our comprehensive pastoral program ensures all girls have their emotional and social wellbeing carefully nurtured.
Success comes in countless forms at Sacré Cœur and we are especially pleased that our girls not only achieve academically, but holistically, across a vast array of co-curricular activities, often at a level greater than their original hopes and aspirations.

Favourite Subject: Australian and Global Politics and the School Musical
Sacré Cœur is a school where everyone is welcomed and valued. From the moment I arrived I felt like this was my home and a place where I could truly flourish. Everyone is encouraged to follow their passions, explore new interests and push themselves to fulfil their potential. One of my favourite subjects is Australian and Global Politics where I can analyse, discuss and challenge national and global issues. This subject allows me to expand my social awareness and develop my perspective on the world. The teachers at Sacré Cœur have created a safe learning environment where there is no embarrassment or fear to raise my hand and ask a question in class or raise my voice and perform in the School Musical. I am thankful to go to a school where every girl is welcomed, nurtured and reminded that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.
