Ipswich Junior Grammar School offers positive, personalised education programs through its Early Education Centre (Kindergarten and Pre-Prep), Foundation Centre (Prep and Year 1), and the Mavis Parkinson Centre (Years 2 to 6).
Junior Grammar offers a unique set of learning opportunities and experiences for students that are not always available in a single gender primary school. Our co-educational learning environment, coupled with the traditions and excellence of Ipswich Junior Grammar, ensures all students receive a balanced, well-crafted education that prepares them for higher learning and future success.
At the school’s Early Education Centre, qualified and committed staff deliver a play-based curriculum program to kindergarten and pre-prep students that is relevant to the children’s interests and developmental needs, focusing on social and personal learning, health and physical development, language and communication, early mathematical understandings and active learning processes.
Junior Grammar teachers, from prep to Year 6, strive to create learning environments in which boys and girls feel safe, relaxed, and willing to take risks. Supportive learning environments expand students’ sense of family and enhance their self-esteem, which, when combined with increased literacy skills, empowers them with an “I can” attitude and leads to greater success in learning.
Extension and challenge opportunities are offered through lessons in entrepreneurship, science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics, both in the classroom and the Bright Sparks E-STEAM workshop, while specialist teachers in drama, music, languages, art, physical education and library studies enhance the learning experience.
Co-curricular activities including music, choir, drama, dance, skipping, public speaking and a wide range of sports and interschool competitions provide further opportunity for enrichment and an all-round education.
Students also have access to first class facilities throughout the wider school campus, including a fitness centre and human movements laboratory, gymnasium and pool, modern science laboratories and a health centre staffed by a registered nurse.
Located in beautifully landscaped grounds, Junior Grammar offers green open spaces, including a natural play space and rainforest walk, one-to-one access to technology and air-conditioned classrooms. The variety of outdoor spaces available also allows Junior Grammar teachers to take the classroom outside for scientific exploration, literary stimulus and physical activity to improve mental focus, with drama performances also popular in the outdoor Junior Grammar amphitheatre.
