Established in 1919, Dandenong High School is one of the oldest, largest and most culturally diverse secondary schools in the state. We are coeducational from Years 7 to 12, with an enrolment of approximately 2000 students made up of 77 nationalities and 83 different language groups. The school is renowned, both nationally and internationally, for its state-of-the-art facilities that provide extensive and highly dynamic learning opportunities for all within the learning community. These spaces, designed to empower students through discovery, inquiry and collaboration, include the seven Houses, which are purposeful designed learning spaces in which students undertake their core learning. Each House holds 300 students from Years 7 -12, a teaching staff of 25, a House Leadership Team of three and a House Administration Officer. Our facilities also include specialist spaces such as the Melaleuca Performing Arts and Sporting complex and the Senior Science Wing.
The school has an innovative approach to curriculum and operates a collaborative learning model. In Years 7 – 9 students learn in groups of 50 students with a team of three teachers who plan, teach, assess and report together for the core subjects. The aim is to ensure the learning is engaging, meaningful and targeted to meet individual student needs and maximise positive student learning outcomes. Our Senior Studies program, which involves students in Years 10 – 12, provides all students with a tailored individualised pathway, allowing for informed student choice. Dandenong High School offers a broad range of opportunities to senior students, including VCE, Vocational Education and Training and the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning. Strong links with a number of tertiary institutions including Monash, Deakin and RMIT universities provide students with excellent pathway opportunities.
The school has an Accelerated and Enhanced Learning Program that provides students with an enriched and extended program to ensure they are reaching their full potential. A strong Wellbeing Team support staff and students and offer extensive peer mentor and Wellbeing Programs throughout the year. Dandenong High School values student leadership and is committed to creating an environment in which the student agency is genuinely acknowledged, nurtured, celebrated and one that ultimately fosters positive change within the school community.
