About Strathcona

Choosing the right school for your daughter is a significant decision.  You want her to be challenged academically in a safe and nurturing environment. You want her to have access to a plethora of opportunities. You want her to flourish intellectually, socially and spiritually. You want her to belong. You want her to be ready for the future.
Welcome to Strathcona.
Strathcona Girls Grammar School is a unique school housed over three separate campuses catering for girls and boys in the Early Learning Centre, and girls from Prep to Year 12.
Girls in Year 9 are accommodated at their own campus. Located on the Banks of the Yarra River in Hawthorn, Tay Creggan was the first designated campus for Year 9 girls in Australia.

We are experts in girls’ education

Our curriculum, academic programs, pastoral care programs and co-curricular offerings have been carefully crafted by experts and are underpinned by the latest research. Our Global Links Program provides opportunities for international and domestic exchanges and travel, whilst our innovative co-curricular programs foster lifelong passions for music, sport, drama, dance and public speaking.
We also draw on the expertise of our Advanced Learning Centre that includes speech pathologists, wellbeing experts and specialist educators to assist and advance learning within the whole student population.

Your daughter will be known

We understand that students are more than just learners: they’re individuals. We take the time to understand your daughter as a learner — her strengths, weaknesses and interests — in order to help her flourish inside and outside the classroom.
At every stage of their education, Strathcona girls benefit from our state-of-the-art learning, sporting, arts and multi-media facilities, including:
  • A Contemporary Learning Centre which houses a Science and Discovery Centre
  • Purpose-built Senior Centre which include quiet study areas, recreation areas and kitchens
  • Multimedia and recording studio
  • A Performing Arts Centre that includes a food and technology facility and an industry-standard catering kitchen
  • An Aquatic Centre which includes a 25m heated pool and Gymnasium. Access to five netball and tennis courts, basketball courts, oval and private rowing facilities.

Strathcona has consistently been ranked among the state’s best performing schools for our impressive VCE results. In 2016, nine per cent of our Year 12s placed in the top one per cent of school leavers and over half achieved an ATAR of 90 or above.

Message from the Principal

At Strathcona, we seek to instil a love of learning in our girls and to encourage them to be discerning thinkers, with the resilience and perseverance to problem solve and adapt to new challenges both within and beyond the school's gates.

Our enduring commitment to the education of each girl who walks through our door is facilitated by an understanding that girls flourish in a warm and encouraging environment. Our supportive networks underlie every academic, co-curricular, leadership and social endeavour each girl chooses to pursue. Our aim is to afford our girls the opportunity to try various activities so that each individual is able to recognise and develop her own interests and unique attributes.

I invite you to visit any of our three campuses to experience the distinctive warmth in the atmosphere and tangible sense of community. It's the perfect environment in which young women can gain the confidence and self-belief they need to explore and contribute to their world.
