About Presbyterian Ladies' College (PLC)

At PLC, we believe everyone has their own excellence just waiting to be uncovered. Whether it is in the classroom, on the stage, in the laboratory or on the sporting field, we encourage and inspire students to find their excellence and embrace life’s opportunities with confidence.

PLC is modern Melbourne, a school for today's girls with a rich heritage, a welcoming community and an exciting future. Founded in 1875, PLC has a proud tradition of producing young women of the highest calibre who go on to make a significant contribution in their world.

We instil in girls a love of learning within a broad, stimulating curriculum that celebrates encouragement, respect and self-discipline. Our outstanding holistic education focuses on each girl’s personal growth and leadership. Our staff are highly involved in their students’ learning journeys and focus on the individual student, nurturing and affirming girls, enabling them to achieve their personal goals.

At PLC, girls are also encouraged to stretch themselves and become critical thinkers and problem-solvers, able to look outside themselves at the challenges facing their world and take responsibility for helping and contributing where they can.

In recent years, the college has undergone an unprecedented transformation that has seen the development of a state-of-the-art new Performing Arts Centre; a new Learning Resource Centre, a new library, IT and AV labs; a dedicated Year 7 Centre, a new hockey and tennis facility, the complete redevelopment of our Science Precinct facilities and the total transformation of the Year 7, 8 and 9 classroom precinct.

PLC offers a comprehensive curriculum from Early Learning Centre (ELC) to Year 12 and offers both the VCE and International Baccalaureate (IB). The Class of 2017 again achieved outstanding academic success with three girls achieving an ATAR of 99.95, 45 per cent achieving an ATAR of 95+ and 66 per cent achieving an ATAR of 90+.

PLC offers academic, music, general excellence and boarding scholarships for girls entering at Years 7 to 11 in Senior School. Daughters and granddaughters of Old Collegians are encouraged to apply.

Message from the Principal

PLC is one of Australia's preeminent schools for girls with a rich heritage and a history of being at the forefront of education for girls. Today PLC stands proudly on the shoulders of those who established this fine school over 140 years ago, with the same values, Christian foundation and belief in the importance of education and the capacity of young women.

Our staff are highly involved in their students’ learning journeys and focus on the individual student, nurturing and affirming girls so that they can achieve their personal goals. Whether they love sport, music, art, or academic pursuits, our teachers will all work together to help realise their potential, supporting their endeavours and enhancing their strengths.

Our students are encouraged to stretch themselves and become critical thinkers, able to look outside themselves at the challenges facing their world and take responsibility for helping and contributing where they can. For over 140 years, PLC alumnae have been at the forefront of societal change, both within Australia and overseas.
